Surely you understand the basics by now. Vegan equals no meat, no animal bi-products, no seafood, dairy or eggs. But, what do you know about vegan beauty? For all we know, you may have stopped at the second sentence thinking, where is this going… don’t tell me there’s shrimp in my skincare.
Sorry, friend. We’re not ones to hold back from telling the truth and the truth is, disturbing. Everything from crushed up bugs to ground-up horns, claws and the fat from slaughtered animals can wind up in your cosmetics and skincare and guess what? You’re not likely to ever know what’s what!
Thankfully, enter Vegan Beauty. What we like to consider a safe space where we know we can lather up our faces with a cleanser at the end of the day and know we’re not washing away a single one of the ingredients we’ve listed above, but rather safe, quality ingredients that all-in-all did more good than harm before and after they made into our daily routine.
Keep in mind that “Vegan”, “Vegan-Friendly” and “100% Vegan” cosmetics are defined as beauty products that do not contain animal ingredients, by-products or any other animal-derived ingredients such as beeswax or honey. All of these different names allude to the same thing.
Now, when it comes to being cruelty-free and whether or not they test on animals, some (not all) vegan products may have been. You’ll know this by the fact that you’re unable to find a clear label that reads “cruelty-free” on the packaging – something in which we highly suggest steering clear of.
The reason we love vegan beauty? How can we not stand behind a movement that promotes a positive change? When you shop vegan products that don’t contain animal ingredients, you’re also standing up against the cruelty of animals for the sake of beauty.
