But, our anxiety is thankfully easing knowing that there’s trailblazers like Lisa Sexton on the case. Lisa faced the unthinkable, a two week holiday, planned as a surprise by her then boyfriend and wait for it – she was only allowed to pack one small bag, yep. Take a minute.
Lisa, a corporate lawyer by trade decided she had a duty of care to save every woman the world over from this situation (we need more Lisa’s people) and so all things Bolt Beauty started.
A dermatologically tested line of single dosed skincare products encased in biodegradable seaweed – wait it gets better. Not only does the seaweed keep the ingredients stabilised, potent and fresh, it takes the guesswork out of instructions like ‘pea sized amount’. Soon as you’re done, you rinse the droplet under water and watch it dissolve or use it for compost.
This, matched with their vibrant colours, high-performance formulations and ridiculously satisfying application, has set TikTok alight, which translates to a sell out one way or another.
Lisa’s understanding of what women really want hasn’t stopped at just creating genius products, she’s also built what’s called "The Stackable Set" which essentially contains three days’ worth of skincare ampules in an entirely space saving travel stack – perfect for a staycay situation – even better it’s a ‘jar-for-life’.
Now, just for perspective here’s something to think about; if we all switched from using plastic travel minis to seaweed capsules, this would eliminate 103 million travel beauty minis each year in the UK alone.
In case you’re wondering, Lisa’s pretty impressive credentials don’t stop there. Not only is Bolt Beauty zero-waste, it’s also Leaping Bunny approved, PETA certified as vegan and cruelty-free, and carbon-neutral across its operations, manufacture and distribution.
"We can't compromise on the bigger picture: the things we buy shouldn't harm the planet and must be easy for the consumer to sustainably use and dispose of," explains Lisa. "You should be able to maintain a great skincare regime without your life revolving around your bathroom cabinet."
