A few staggering statistics you might not know...

One person takes their own life every 40 seconds.
The global suicide rate is twice as high among men as it is among women.
A prior suicide attempt is an important risk factor for suicide.
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among 15 - 29 year olds.
Suicide affects people of all age groups, in all countries.

Talking about mental illness has been stigmatised for far too long. Suicide is preventable. Do you think you know someone who is struggling? Let them know they're not alone.

Reach out

Ask, "Are you having suicidal thoughts?" Do not promise to keep their life-threatening thoughts a secret.

Listen

Allow space for them to speak.
